In short: this is a free tool for exploring history, offered as-is. There's no account to agree to anything with. Using the site means you've accepted the points below.
Groundwar is a free, no-account tool that shows historical battles, events and notable people near a place you choose, pulled live from Wikidata and Wikipedia. It's provided for personal, informational and educational use.
Groundwar has no editorial staff and keeps no database of its own. Everything you see, including dates, locations, names and summaries, comes directly from Wikidata and Wikipedia at the moment you load the page. Those are open, crowd-edited sources: most entries are accurate, but some are incomplete, approximate, outdated or occasionally wrong. Don't rely on anything shown here for academic citation, legal, medical or financial decisions, or any other purpose where accuracy actually matters. Check the linked Wikipedia article, and its own sources, before treating anything as fact.
Groundwar is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. It may be slow, unavailable or broken at times (it depends entirely on free public services it doesn't control), and it may change or stop being available without notice. Use it at your own risk.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Groundwar and whoever maintains it aren't liable for any damages or losses arising from your use of the site, including from inaccurate data, downtime or data loss (there's nothing stored server-side to lose, but see the privacy policy for what your browser keeps locally).
Groundwar works by calling public, rate-limited services (Wikidata, Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap, Nominatim) directly from your browser. Please don't automate requests to this site in a way that would hammer those services, attempt to scrape or republish their data at volume through this site, or otherwise abuse the free access they provide. Each service's own usage policy applies on top of this.
Groundwar's own code and design are not available for reuse without permission. The historical content itself (battle, event and figure data) comes from Wikidata, which is released under CC0, and from Wikipedia article summaries, released under CC BY-SA. Map tiles are © OpenStreetMap contributors, also under their own open license.
Groundwar, and these terms, may change over time. If this page changes, the "Last updated" date above will change with it.
For anything about how the site itself works or what it collects (nothing), see the privacy policy.
