Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 1, 2026

In short: Groundwar itself collects nothing. There's no account, no sign-up, no analytics of its own, and no server to collect anything on. It does show ads, and the ad network behind them does its own tracking for ad personalization: see "Advertising" below for exactly what that involves.

What Groundwar collects

Nothing. Groundwar has no backend, no database, and no account system. Nobody who makes Groundwar can see what you've searched, where you live, or what you've starred. There's simply no channel for that information to reach anyone. (This is about Groundwar's own code only; see "Advertising" below for the one exception.)

What stays on your device

Groundwar remembers a few things locally, in your browser's own storage, so the app feels continuous between visits:

All of this lives only in your browser, on your own device. It's never transmitted anywhere and never readable by anyone else. You can clear it at any time, either through the app's own "Clear" buttons or by clearing site data for this page in your browser's settings.

Your location

If you tap "Use my current location," your browser's own location prompt asks your permission first, exactly as it would for any site. If you allow it, your coordinates are used to build a query sent directly from your browser to Wikidata. They never pass through a server belonging to Groundwar, because there isn't one.

Third-party sources

Groundwar's map and data come live from public services, called directly from your browser:

Requests to these services carry the normal technical information any web request does (such as your IP address), handled under each service's own policy linked above. Groundwar itself adds nothing to those requests and keeps no record of them.

Advertising

Groundwar shows ads served by Google AdSense, to help cover the cost of running the site. (As of this writing, AdSense hasn't finished being set up for this site yet, so no ad-related data collection is actually happening here yet. This section describes what starts once it is.)

AdSense uses cookies and similar technology to show ads, which can include personalizing them based on your browsing elsewhere. That's Google's own data collection, governed by Google's advertising privacy policy, not something Groundwar sees or controls. You can turn off personalized ads for Google generally at adssettings.google.com, and your browser's own ad-blocking or tracking-protection settings work here the same as anywhere else.

Children's privacy

Groundwar's own code collects no personal information from anyone, children included. Groundwar isn't directed at children, and the ads described above are not configured for child-directed treatment.

Changes to this policy

If this page ever changes, the "Last updated" date above will change with it.
